Casket Mountain is six miles northwest of Fort Davis in central Jeff Davis County (at 30°39' N, 103°55' W). It rises to an elevation of 6,183 feet above sea level, some 900 feet higher than the radio tower a mile southwest. On the mountain shallow, stony soils support Douglas fir, aspen, Arizona cypress, maple, ponderosa pine, and madrone.
