Cave Creek rises seven miles north of Gatesville in northern Coryell County (at 31°34' N, 97°43' W) and runs northeast for nine miles to its mouth on Middle Bosque Creek, a mile west of the Bosque county line (at 31°35' N, 97°37' W). The surrounding terrain is generally flat to rolling, with local deep dissections, and is surfaced by shallow, stony clay loams that support juniper, oak, mesquite, and grasses. The creek was named by early settlers who found numerous caves along its banks.
