Cave Creek rises one mile south of Goode Triangulation Station in south central Edwards County (at 29°45' N, 100°18' W) and runs southwest fifteen miles to its mouth on the West Nueces River, one mile north of DeLong Ranch in north central Kinney County (at 29°38' N, 100°22' W). It crosses flat terrain with local deep and dense dissection, surfaced by shallow, stony soils that support oak, juniper, and mesquite.
