Cedar Creek rises two miles south of Perry and a quarter mile east of the Missouri Pacific tracks in northeastern Falls County (at 31°24' N, 96°55' W) and runs southwest for 5½ miles, around Buie Lake, to its mouth on the Brazos River, four miles northwest of Marlin (at 31°21' N, 96°58' W). The creek initially winds through level to sloping upland terrain surfaced by calcareous clayey soils that support mixed hardwoods and pines. Near the creek's mouth the terrain changes to a nearly level bottomland surfaced by clayey and loamy soils that support water-tolerant hardwoods and conifers.
