Cedar Creek rises half a mile northeast of Elwood in northwest Van Zandt County (at 32°45' N, 95°57' W) and runs two miles north to its mouth on McBee Creek, just east of Farm Road 1395 (at 32°46' N, 95°57' W). The surrounding flat terrain with local shallow depressions is surfaced by clay and sandy loam that supports water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
