Cedar Mountain is seven miles southeast of Oxford in southern Llano County (at 30°32' N, 98°38' W). At an elevation of 1,856 feet, the summit rises 800 feet above nearby Sandy Creek. The large, steep-sided plateau, five miles by two miles, stands in the Llano Basin, surrounded by rolling terrain with deep and dense dissection, surfaced by shallow, stony soils that support open stands of live oak and Ashe juniper.
