One and possibly two papers called the Morning Herald were printed in Galveston in late 1840. Texas Newspapers, 1813–1939 (1941), a checklist, indicates that a Morning Herald was published in April 1841 and that a Galveston Morning Herald started publication the same month and continued until July 1841. They were probably the same paper with and without the town name in the masthead. One paper was printed at the office of the Civilian and Galveston Gazette (see GALVESTON CIVILIAN) from late November or early December 1840; one was published by Sidney Smith Callender. John S. Evans served as assistant editor for a time.
