James Girard Garrett, Alamo defender, was born in Tennessee in 1806. He was a resident of Louisiana when he marched to Texas as a member of Capt. Thomas H. Breece's company of New Orleans Greys in 1835. Garrett took part in the siege of Bexar and later served in the Alamo garrison. He died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836.
