Samuel Turner Harrison, farmer and legislator, was born on July 15, 1810, in Logan County, Kentucky, son of John M. and Pheriba (Chism) Harrison. In 1817 he moved to Perry County, Alabama, with his parents. On March 1, 1832, Samuel Harrison married Ann White in Alabama. In 1853 Harrison moved to Texas and began to farm land in Cherokee County. Well-liked by friends and neighbors Harrison chose to run for the Texas House of Representatives in 1859 and was elected to the Eighth Texas Legislature. He was elected to a second term in the Ninth Legislature. Samuel T. Harrison died on September 23, 1884, and is buried in the Armstrong-Harrison Cemetery which sits on land in Alto which he donated for this purpose.
