William Michael Seneca Houghton, merchant, farmer, and legislator, was born on March 27, 1800, in Augusta, Georgia, son of Michael F. and Elizabeth (Harris) Houghton. He married Mary Mayo in 1832 in Georgia; they had two children. After her death in 1839, he married Mary F. Doney sometime around 1840; they had eight children. Houghton moved to Gray Rock, Texas, on the Franklin and Titus county line around 1847.
While living in Titus County Houghton was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1859. After his second wife died in 1860, Houghton moved to Florence, Williamson County where he married Mary Standifer on January 8, 1862; they had three children. He died in Florence on March 1, 1868.
