Allen Carter Jones, early settler, the son of Jacob Jones, was born in 1785. With his wife and family he arrived at Nacogdoches, Texas, on July 1, 1826. He was detailed for service in the home guard to protect the women and children against the Indians. He received one of the earliest headright certificates from the Republic of Texas, for a league and a labor of land now in Montgomery County. His eldest son, Keeton, also received land for his services in the Texas Revolution. In 1832 Jones married his second wife, Maria Davis, and made his home in Grimes County thereafter. He had ten children with his first wife and four with his second.
