The Journal of Air Law was founded in 1930 and became the Journal of Air Law and Commerce in 1939. It was published at Northwestern University until 1961, when it began to be published by the School of Law at Southern Methodist University. SMU has published a cumulative index through volume 35. The Journal of Air Law and Commerce is published quarterly and has a circulation of 2,000. In 1990 it was edited by Mark Sloan but was staffed by students who are chosen based on grades on their first year's work or on a writing competition.
