Elbridge Gerry Littlejohn, school administrator and writer, the son of Elbridge G. and Sara Ann (Jeffries) Littlejohn, was born in Smith County, Texas, on September 23, 1862. He attended George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, Tennessee, 1881–82, and in 1883 became a teacher in the Galveston schools. In 1889 he received an M.A. degree at Add-Ran College and the following year was promoted to principal of the Alamo School in Galveston. He held that position until 1924, when he was made superintendent of the Galveston schools. During summers he was a lecturer at the University of Texas at various times between 1907 and 1923. He wrote Texas History Stories (1901) and Geography of Texas (1913) and was associate editor of the Texas Journal of Education (1887–91). He married Helen Cullens, and they had one son and three daughters. Littlejohn died on December 2, 1935.
