The Weekly Despatch, published at Matagorda by James Attwell, previously publisher of the Colorado Gazette and Advertiser (see MATAGORDA GAZETTE AND ADVERTISER), appeared from December 1843 until about June 1846. According to the Houston Morning Star the Despatch was devoted to "literature, news, and politics" and sold for three dollars annually.
