Meeker is on the Missouri Pacific line in north central Jefferson County. It was probably named for G. W. Meeker, president of the Beaumont and Sour Lake Construction Company. It was shown on contemporary maps shortly after the construction of the Beaumont, Sour Lake and Western Railway through the area in 1904. Though the Beaumont-Sour Lake line was acquired by the Missouri Pacific system in 1956, a small community remained at Meeker in the mid-1980s.
