George Nelson, Alamo defender, son of William Nelson, was born in South Carolina in 1805. He came to Texas by way of New Orleans as a member of Capt. Thomas Breece's company of New Orleans Greys. He was wounded in the siege of Bexar. He later served in the Alamo garrison as a member of Capt. William Blazeby's infantry company. Nelson died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836, along with his brother, Edward Nelson.
