Sebron Miles Noble, land surveyor and Confederate officer, was born in Mississippi in 1832. He was the son of Levi and Jane (Steen) Noble. Levi Noble founded the town of Kemp in Kaufman County.
Noble worked as a deputy land surveyor in Nacogdoches. He lived in a hotel run by William Clark, Jr., who signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. When the Civil War broke out, Noble joined the Seventeenth Texas Cavalry as the captain of Company A on February 1, 1862. Noble and his unit were mustered into service on March 15, 1862. On May 22, 1862, the Seventeenth Cavalry was reorganized, and Noble was elected to the rank of major at that time. On January 11, 1863, Noble and his unit were captured at the battle of Arkansas Post and then exchanged east of the Mississippi River in the spring of that year. In 1863 he was elected lieutenant colonel and led a battalion of troops in the battle of Fayetteville, Arkansas, on April 18, 1863. During the spring of 1864, he served with Granbury's Brigade in the Army of Tennessee. Nobel was killed at the battle of Mansfield, Louisiana on April 8, 1864.
