Osman Canyon

Osman Canyon (once known as Langtry Creek), a valley traversed by an intermittent stream, begins in western Val Verde County at the confluence of Osman Draw and Little Osman Draw three miles northeast of Pumpville (at 29°'57 N, 101°'42 W) and runs southeast for fourteen miles to its mouth on Pump Canyon, one mile north of U.S. Highway 90 (at 29°'50 N, 101°'36 W). It crosses variable terrain on hard limestone, limy mud, and wash deposits of gravel, sand, clay, and silt. Soils in the area are generally dark, calcareous, stony clays and clay loams. Area vegetation consists primarily of junipers, oaks, grasses, and water-tolerant hardwoods and conifers. The canyon and the draws were named for a railroad siding and section houses located nearby in 1892.
