Rights of Man

The schooner Rights of Man was purchased by John Richardson Harris for $1,000 and used to carry goods between Texas and New Orleans during the late 1820s and early 1830s. In 1828 it took eighty-four bales of cotton to New Orleans. To Texas it brought nails, flour, tobacco, clothing, and assorted consumer goods. After Harris's death in 1829 the Harris estate continued to operate the ship, and it was used in 1832 to return Mexican troops from Texas to Mexico.
