Sand Ridge, on State Highway 21 twenty miles southwest of Crockett in southwestern Houston County, was established before 1900. In the mid-1930s the settlement comprised a school, several businesses, and a large number of houses. After World War II many of the residents moved away, but in the mid-1960s there were still several businesses and a number of houses in the area. In the early 1990s Sand Ridge was a dispersed rural community.
