The Texas Polka News
The Texas Polka News is a monthly periodical published out of Houston. Founded in 1987 by promoter, musician, and radio personality Julius Tupa, the newspaper’s mission is to “help promote and preserve polka music and dance.” The Texas Polka News provides information about the polka music scene throughout Texas and the nation. Regular features include articles on dances and festivals, profiles of disc jockeys and dance halls, human interest stories, up-to-date dance calendars, as well as photographs.
After Julius Tupa’s death in 2002, his wife Marie continued as publisher of the newspaper, assisted by pro-bono writer John Rivard. In 2011 the sixteen-page publication had a circulation of more than 1,800. Marie Tupa sold the periodical to Theresa Cernoch Parker in 2014, and in 2015 Parker served as publisher and Gary E. McKee was editor.
