Thompson Creek (Jones County)

General Entry

Thompson Creek rises four miles west of Anson in west central Jones County (at 32°44' N, 100°02' W) and runs northeast for nine miles to its mouth on California Creek, seven miles southwest of Stamford (at 32°53' N, 99°53' W). It is dammed in its lower reaches to form Anson North Lake (at 32°51' N, 99°54' W). The streambed traverses flat terrain with local shallow depressions and a surface of clay and sandy loam that supports water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
