Tips State Recreation Area is off State Highway 72 just west of Three Rivers in Live Oak County. The 31.3-acre park, situated on a scenic stretch of the Frio River, was donated to the state by private owners in 1925 before the original parks board was established. In 1935 the park was transferred to the State Parks Board. The parks department built some picnic tables and other facilities, but the park has been leased since 1925 to the town of Three Rivers.
