Toudouze, Gustave (1819–1902)
Gustave Toudouze, naturalist, was born on April 24, 1819, in Noyent, France. In 1839 he married Josephine Perot. He was a professor of natural history before immigrating to Tennessee in 1846. In 1853 he moved to Losoya, Texas, where, as a taxidermist and natural scientist, he built up a museum consisting of birds, birds' eggs, wild animals, flowers, and rocks. With his close friend, Henry P. Attwater, a Canadian naturalist, Toudouze exhibited an extensive collection of Texas mammals and birds at the World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition in New Orleans in 1884 and 1885.
