Village Creek State Park is on U.S. Highway 96 in Lumberton ten miles north of Beaumont in Hardin County. It is a 942-acre park with over a mile of frontage on Village Creek. The park was opened to the public on April 20, 1994. The area is on a flood zone, covered in bottomland forest, cypress swamps, water-tupelo swamps, and baygalls (miniature swamps). Vegetation includes river birch, Spanish moss, hickory trees, blackberries, yaupon thickets, and sweetgums. The park is home to sixty-four species of birds as well as white-tail deer, armadillos, alligators, beavers, minks, and a variety of fish. Recreational activities include fishing, hiking, camping, swimming, canoeing, and picnicking.
