Wayside was on Buck Creek near a road that later became Farm Road 14, six miles from Quitman in central Wood County. It was probably settled by the 1870s. By 1896 it had a one-teacher school for seventy-one White students. In 1905 the school had fifty-three students and one teacher. By the 1930s the school and community had disappeared.
