Wilbarger Creek rises three miles north of Pflugerville in northern Travis County (at 30°29' N, 97°38' W). Intermittent in its upper and middle reaches, the creek runs southeast for forty-two mile to its mouth on the Colorado River, six miles north of Bastrop in Bastrop County (at 30°11' N, 97°23' W). The terrain is generally flat to rolling with steep margins and is surfaced by sandy soil that supports pecans, willow, mesquite, scrub brush, and grasses. The stream probably takes its name from Josiah Wilbarger, who was granted land near the mouth of the creek in 1832.
