BONHAM DAILY FAVORITE
BONHAM DAILY FAVORITE. The Bonham Daily Favorite was founded on May 2, 1910. The paper is an outgrowth of the weekly Fannin County Favorite, which was founded by Dr. J. M. Terry sometime around 1880 and absorbed the Bonham Democrat. According to some sources, Terry began to publish a daily edition of the paper known as the Daily Favorite in addition to the weekly in the 1890s, and this paper subsequently passed through a series of owners, including the Farm Labor Union. In 1922 the Fannin County Favorite merged with the Bonham News to form the Bonham News and Fannin County Favorite. The Bonham News, a weekly and semiweekly successor to the weekly Texas News, published from 1866 to 1873 by William T. Gass, Jr., had been published beginning in 1874 by editors J. W. Piner and A. D. Chisholm. The Bonham Daily Favorite is recalled for the writings of columnist R. M. Cantrell, who contributed to the paper from 1939 until 1976, and for its record of the public career of Samuel T. (Sam) Rayburn, Fannin County Congressman and longtime speaker of the United States House of Representatives. In 1990 the Daily Favorite was published by Dennis Arterburn and had a circulation of 2,833.
