MOUNT GILEAD, TX (WASHINGTON COUNTY)
MOUNT GILEAD, TEXAS (Washington County). Mount Gilead, one of Washington County's earliest settlements, was founded by Baptists during the Republic of Texas era. The settlement's exact location is unknown. Mount Gilead was the site of sermons by lay Baptist leaders R. E. B. Baylor and Rufus C. Burleson.qqv During its short existence the community remained small, and nothing remains of it.
