CROOKED BRANCH. Crooked Branch rises five miles southeast of Martindale in western Caldwell County (at 29°49' N, 97°46' W) and runs south for four miles to its mouth on Callihan Creek, two miles northeast of Fentress (at 29°46' N, 97°46' W). The stream traverses flat to rolling prairie surfaced by dark, calcareous clay that supports mesquite, cacti, and grasses.
