GUM CREEK (Upshur County). Gum Creek, also known as Bear Creek, rises two miles southwest of New Mountain in northeastern Upshur County (at 32°49' N, 94°49' W) and runs southeast for eight miles to its mouth on Little Cypress Creek, just west of Graceton (at 32°42' N, 94°49' W). The creek, which is intermittent in its upper reaches, traverses flat to rolling terrain surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
