MORGAN CREEK (HOWARD COUNTY)
MORGAN CREEK (Howard County). Morgan Creek, previously known as Cherry Creek, rises fourteen miles north of Big Spring, just north of Farm Road 846 in north central Howard County (at 32°28' N, 101°26' W) and runs forty-two miles east to its mouth on the Colorado River, just south of Lake Colorado City and four miles south of Colorado City in central Mitchell County (at 32°19' N, 100°55' W). Its principle tributaries include Iatan and Hasting creeks in western Mitchell County. The surrounding flat, flood-prone terrain has local shallow depressions and is surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support water tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
