PRAIRIE CREEK (Shelby County). Prairie Creek rises in eastern Shelby County (at 31°49' N, 94°11' W) two miles northeast of Center and runs southeast for nine miles to its mouth (at 31°47' N, 94°04' W) on Tenaha Creek. The local soil varies from sandy to clayey and loamy, and the terrain varies from nearly level to moderately steep. The area is heavily wooded, with pines and various hardwoods predominating.
