CHILDER'S SLOUGH. Childer's Slough rises a mile south of Batesville Hill seven miles northwest of Batesville in north central Zavala County (at 29°02' N, 99°43' W) and runs southeast for eight miles to its mouth on Gallina Slough, a mile northwest of Batesville (at 28°58' N, 99°39' W). The surrounding terrain is flat with locally shallow depressions and is surfaced by expansive clays that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
