BLACK MOUNTAIN (Brewster County). Black Mountain is twenty-five miles southwest of Marathon in west central Brewster County (at 29°53' N, 103°26' W). Its peak rises to 4,610 feet above sea level, 760 feet above Chalk Draw, a mile west. Soils on the mountain are shallow and stony and support scrub brush and grasses.
