CHRISTMAS MOUNTAINS. The Christmas Mountains are twelve miles northeast of Terlingua in southern Brewster County (at 29°26' N, 103°27' W). With an elevation of 5,728 feet above sea level, the highest peak in the mountains rises 2,050 feet above the Terlingua Ranch Lodge, a mile northeast. The area's shallow, stony soils support oak, juniper, mesquite, chaparral, cacti, scrub brush, and grasses.
