PELONCILLO PEAK. Peloncillo Peak is nine miles southeast of Spofford in southeastern Kinney County (at 29°06' N, 100°17' W). Its summit, at an elevation of 979 feet above sea level, rises some 110 feet above the nearby junction of Elm and Lindsey creeks. Peloncillo Peak was named for a Mexican brown sugar confection because of the mountain's resemblance to the shape of that candy.
