STAIRWAY MOUNTAIN. Stairway Mountain is just south of the Black Gap Wildlife Management Area sixteen miles southeast of the Persimmon Gap Ranger Station in southeastern Brewster County (at 29°33' N, 102°59' W). At an elevation of 3,979 feet above sea level, it rises 1,525 feet above Farm Road 2627, just to the east. The area has shallow, stony soils that support oak, juniper, and some mesquite.
