LAKE CREEK LAKE
LAKE CREEK LAKE. Lake Creek Lake (Lake Creek Reservoir) is on Manos Creek in the Brazos River basin four miles west of Riesel in eastern McLennan County. The project is owned and operated by the Texas Power and Light Company and is used to provide water for condenser cooling for a steam electric generating station; it also provides irrigation water. Runoff from Manos Creek is supplemented by pumping from the Brazos River. Construction of the Lake Creek Dam (at 31°27' N, 96°59' W) began on September 8, 1951, and was completed in May 1952. Deliberate impoundment of water began in June 1952, and the first generating unit began operating in April 1953. The reservoir has a normal capacity of 8,500 acre-feet and a maximum impoundment capacity of 10,580. The dam is made of earth and has a 596-foot-wide uncontrolled spillway. The drainage area above the dam is seventeen square miles.
