DELVING INTO THE ARCHIVES AND
In connection with the dual representation the Red River section had in the Arkansas Legislature, together with the Congress of the Republic of Texas, I here present some copies of old documents from Miller County, Arkansas. These papers are 100 years of age. This tends to show the record proof of the time when Red River County was being settled. The genesis of Clarksville, heretofore shown, followed that of the town of Jonesboro very closely, as shown by one of the following documents which shows the designation of Jonesboro as the county seat of Miller County. The county seat selection of Clarksville follows this within two years. Both these county organizations, bear in mind, cover the same territory.
We are under lasting obligation to Mr. George Travis Wright of Paris,
Lamar County, Texas, for these old historical papers.
