Capitol Women

This is a 4th Grade Social Studies Lesson Plan, created as part of the Project of the Ruthe Winegarten Memorial Foundation for Texas Women's History. The objective of this lesson plan is to introduce students to women’s involvement in state politics, from their struggles to win the right to vote to their service in the state legislature. At the end of the lesson, students will have gained an understanding of how women worked to achieve voting rights and a place in the state legislature. The lesson can be covered in three class periods.
